Bears Twitter isn’t loving the idea of Matt Eberflus returning in 2024

Chicago Bears fans are ending 2023 with quite a bit of discontent with the report that head coach Matt Eberflus is expected to return next season. NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero reported on Saturday that Eberflus’ job is likely safe if the Bears finish the season strong.

When it comes to wins and losses, Eberflus has been the worst coach in Chicago Bears history for much of his tenure. He was hired in 2022 and proceeded to go 3-14 in his first season coaching the team. Things didn’t look any better to start the 2023 season, where the Bears got off to a 0-4 start with turmoil on the coaching staff that led to the dismissal of defensive coordinator Alan Williams.

But as the year continued, the Bears rebounded overall. They’ve gone 6-5 in their last 11 games, and the defense has turned into a top-10 unit. But although there have been positive developments, the Bears still have their issues. They have three historic blown leads this season and still have an offense that is struggling to find consistency.

With two games to go, it sounds like Eberflus can essentially guarantee his future with victories over the Atlanta Falcons and Green Bay Packers. But Bears fans don’t seem to love the idea of him coming back for a third season. Here is how fans on social media reacted to the news:
