Bears rookie safety Jaquan Brisker had an impressive rookie debut against the Chiefs last week, where he showed the kind of immediate impact he can have in Chicago’s secondary.
But Brisker has been sidelined ever since with what head coach Matt Eberflus called a right hand injury. Eberflus said there was no timetable for his return.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Brisker recently underwent surgery to repair a thumb injury. Per Rapoport, Brisker’s thumb has been fixed and he has “a real chance” to be ready in time for the season opener.

Brisker has impressed throughout training camp — really, the offseason since arriving in Chicago — and fans caught a glimpse of the kind of physical, instinctive, ball-hawking safety he can be.
In his rookie debut against Kansas City, Brisker totaled 4 tackles, including 1 tackle-for-loss, as well as a pass breakup. He almost nearly had an interception.
While it’s not ideal that Brisker is dealing with an injury, the good news is it sounds like he’ll be back in time for Week 1 against the 49ers. Brisker, along with the rest of the starters, wasn’t going to play in the preseason finale against the Browns anyway.
