The Chicago Bears suffered several critical injuries in Sunday’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, but it sounds like they’re close to getting back one key player on offense just in time for Christmas.
Running back Khalil Herbert is designated to return from injured reserve and he’s returning to practice this week. Herbert has missed the last four games with a hip injury.
Bears coach Matt Eberflus said Herbert is “cleared and ready to go,” an indication Chicago could have another key playmaker back for quarterback Justin Fields.
Herbert has been one of the most productive running backs in the NFL this year. While he’s split reps with David Montgomery (limiting his rushing yardage), Herbert has the highest yards per rush average of qualifying running backs at 6.0 yards per carry.
Through 10 games, Herbert has rushed for 643 yards on 108 carries for four touchdowns. He also has six catches for 62 yards and a score. Before landing on IR, Herbert was Chicago’s second-leading rusher behind Fields.
