Bears quarterback Tyson Bagent has made the impressive leap from Division II Shepherd University to becoming the fill-in starter for an injured Justin Fields. But the hype surrounding the undrafted rookie free agent apparently began to pick up steam, even inside the team locker room, prior to his recent two-game stretch under center.
One Bears player reportedly predicted in training camp that Bagent would be "the next Brock Purdy," according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
It wasn’t a surprise to anyone around the Bears to see Tyson Bagent play well during last Sunday’s win over the Raiders. One Bears’ player predicted in training camp that Bagent would turn out to be “the next Brock Purdy”. Bagent’s second NFL start comes tonight vs. the Chargers.

It's obviously exceptionally high praise for Bagent, who's completed 31-of-43 passing attempts for 245 yards, one passing touchdown and one interception through two games.
While Bagent has a long way to go before being crowned as the actual "next Brock Purdy," he's already overcome a huge uphill climb to be in the position he is, so why not add a little more fuel to the fire and build the hype train even more.
Bagent will draw his second NFL start on Sunday when the Bears face the Chargers.
