The future is bright for Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who showed he has the potential to develop into a star quarterback.
Fields’ rookie season didn’t go according to plan, as it was filled with rookie mistakes, poor coaching, a struggling offensive line and a lack of weapons. But it’s certainly no reason to doubt Fields’ potential because of a rocky rookie season.
Running back Khalil Herbert caught up with Jarrett Payton to talk about Fields, who apparently has lost some confidence among Bears fans. Herbert laughed at that — the natural reaction — and described Fields as “that guy.” The one who boasts star power and potential, and he got a glimpse of it first hand alongside his fellow rookie last season.
“He’s definitely that guy,” Herbert told Payton last week at the Super Bowl. “Just working with him everyday from minicamp you see how much he’s grown, how much he’s learned, the confidence he has and he’s continuing to make strides. Each game I think he learned and had something new he took from each game. Next year’s going to be a big difference.”

Fields enters his first NFL offseason as the undisputed starting quarterback. While he’ll have a new offense to learn under offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, the Bears are ready to build this offense around Fields and to the strengths of the players.
Herbert predicted a huge jump for Fields in Year 2, and it’s hard to argue against that.
