Bears HC Matt Eberflus provides update on Justin Fields’ right hand injury

Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields suffered a right hand injury in Sunday’s loss to the Minnesota Vikings, where it sounds like he avoided a serious injury.

Head coach Matt Eberflus provided a quick update on Fields after the game, where he said X-rays on Fields’ right hand were negative and he didn’t break a bone in his hand. Fields will undergo an MRI on Monday for further evaluation.

“He wanted to come back in the game,” Eberflus told reporters. “…He just couldn’t grip the ball to throw it right now.”

After a pair of impressive outings, Fields was held to 6-of-10 passing for 58 yards and an interception. He was sacked four times.

Undrafted rookie Tyson Bagent replaced Fields in the second half. While he committed a couple of turnovers, Bagent led the Bears to their only touchdown of the day — a rushing score by Bagent — and nearly led a comeback drive in the final minutes.

If Fields can’t go next Sunday against the Raiders, it would likely be Bagent getting the starting nod with Nathan Peterman serving as his backup.
