Bear Necessities: How Jaylon Johnson is spending his bye week

The Chicago Bears are enjoying a much-needed (albeit late) bye week before their final four-game stretch of the 2022 season.

The bye week is usually a time to regroup, get healthy and prepare for the remainder of the season. For Chicago, they’re sitting at 3-10 where their season is all but over. Still, the bye week provides a chance to decompress before the final four games — and to take a step back from football.

“I won’t take the whole week, off but definitely not thinking about the game, not thinking about the season,” said cornerback Jaylon Johnson, via ChicagoBears.com. “Just kind of decompressing and separating from that and spending time with my daughter, spending time with my family. I’m going to stay in that moment. And then when I’m back, I’m back to business.”

The Bears have lost six straight games, and they face the toughest remaining strength of schedule over the final month with games against three playoff-bound teams in the Eagles, Bills and Vikings, as well as the Lions.

“I mean, the way I look at it is I can’t lose on the bye week,” Johnson said. “Just go 1-0 this week. So I mean I’m happy about that. I’m happy about winning something, being able to go back home, being off, relaxing, just gaining an edge mentally. For me, my family’s not out here. So being able to go back and see my daughter, that’s a win for me.”

The Bears return to action next Sunday when they host the top-seeded Eagles at Soldier Field in Week 15.
