A beacon was lit at the top of Dumbarton Castle to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee last night.
Linda Moffat, the Vice Lord Lieutenant of Dunbartonshire, lit the beacon as the sun set on Thursday.
She was joined by Provost Douglas McAllister, Chief Executive Joyce White OBE, Historic Environmental Scotland and piper Colin Lawrie who played a special piece of music written for the occasion.
More than 3,500 beacons were lit up around the world to mark the Queen’s 70-year reign.
The Queen began the ceremony by touching a globe representing the Commonwealth nations, symbolically sending a chain of lights from Windsor Castle to Buckingham Palace.
Four days of celebrations marking the Queen’s 70-year reign began on Thursday morning.
The council will also be flying the union flag from civic buildings throughout the extended Bank Holiday weekend and have a day of closure today to allow employees to enjoy the occasion with their families.
Meanwhile, events are being held across the area including in Gartocharn where villagers are also marking the birthday of the village’s Kilmaronock Millennium Hall.
Activities such as races and games, bouncy castles, tea and cake and ice cream in the afternoon will be followed with a hog roast and BBQ in the evening alongside a children’s disco.
The street and hall have been decorated with union flags and bunting.
