An idyllic beach off the coast of Galway has been described as “The Caribbean of Ireland” on Tripadvisor ahead of the summer season.
Dog’s Bay Beach has been hailed as one of the best beaches in Ireland online, with users describing the white sand destination as “paradise.”
The bay, a horse-shoe shaped enclave, is about an hour and a half drive from Galway city centre. The idyllic spot spans a mile in length and boasts white sands derived from fine seashells.

The spot was listed earlier this year as one of Ireland’s top 10 beaches in the Irish Independent’s Reader Travel Awards.
The bay is an ideal place for a quick dip in the Atlantic Ocean thanks to its protective headland and visitors are encouraged to partake in a range of water-based activities, including kite surfing.
However, locals have warned visitors to plan ahead as parking at the scenic spot can be difficult during the summer months.
Dog’s Bay lies behind Gurteen Beach, which is a similar white sand haven. Both spots have suffered from coastal erosion in recent years. The local community have planted marram glass at the dunes that separate the two locations in response to the growing threat posed by erosion.
