'Be honest' - Evangelos Marinakis handed Nottingham Forest summer transfer plan

Former Nottingham Forest striker Kevin Campbell has told Evangelos Marinakis how he should approach the summer transfer window if the Reds stay in the Premier League.

Campbell, who played for Forest between 1995 and 1998, urged Marinakis to avoid a repeat of last summer, instead trimming and tweaking the squad to improve on the season gone by.

"Not a mass overhaul," Campbell said on the BBC 5Live Friday Football Social. "They'll be a year seasoned in the Premier League. Steve Cooper, who I think is still doing a great job at Forest, will have learned so much from the first season.

"So you're going to go and get specific signings there. You might have to get a few out as well, let's be honest with you. They went player crazy last summer.

"But what do you do? You try and trim the squad down a little bit and bring in a little bit more quality so you can be better off for the following season. I think that's what would happen.

"The owner has been very good at sticking his hand in his pocket, but in order to upgrade the quality, you've got to spend the money and that's probably the next step."

How many signings do Forest need this summer if they stay up? Let us know in the comments.
