BBC viewers confused over Harry and Meghan's show of affection at Queen's procession

People following Queen Elizabeth II's procession were confused by Harry and Meghan's show of affection.

The nation has been in mourning since Her Majesty died last Thursday aged 96. The former monarch's funeral will take place on Monday, September 19.

Elizabeth II's coffin was transported from Buckingham Palace to the Palace of Westminster, where it will lie in state for four days. Members of the Royal family joined the procession, which proceeded along The Mall, Horse Guards Road, across Horse Guards Parade and onto Whitehall to Parliament Square and into the Palace of Westminster.

Prince William and Harry walked side-by-side as they put aside their reported rift in a show of unity for their late grandmother. The Princes' wives, Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle, supported the Royal family as they were in the cars following the procession.

Meghan appeared by Harry's side as they walked into the palace to pay their respects to Elizabeth II. However, viewers following the procession on Twitter were confused why they were holding hands.

Patricia posted: "Why were Meghan and Harry holding hands in church"

Ges posted: "Isn't it time Harry & Meghan learnt how to walk without constantly holding hands. NOT APPROPRIATE LEAVING ABBEY!!!"

Jean tweeted : "What a shame. Meghan and Harry just had to draw attention to themselves by holding hands. Totally inappropriate but what else can you expect?"

Expert Myka Meier has previously told People that there is no actual etiquette or protocol that advises couples against holding hands in public. However, body language expert Robin Kermode previously told the Daily Mail how Prince William and Kate likely follow Elizabeth II's lead as she rarely held hands with Prince Philip in public.

But other viewers on Twitter took to the social media platform to argue Prince Harry and Meghan should be able to show affection towards one another at a time of sorrow.

Honjay said: "Love Meghan and harry so much their continued support of one another and nothing ever stops them from showing affection like as they were heading out you could just make out that were holding hands seriously these two are a team in every sense of the word"

Jay posted: "Isn’t it normal to find comfort in your spouse?"

Staci commented: "I absolutely do not understand why people are freaking out about Meghan and Harry holding hands leaving Westminster"
