The BBC has released a first-look image of the third and final series of Doctor Foster.
The show is returning a decade after series two and will see Suranne Jones reprise her role as Gemma along with fellow returning stars Bertie Carvel as Gemma’s husband Simon and Tom Taylor as their son Tom.
Thusitha Jayasundera will also reprise her role as Gemma’s friend Ros while Anna Madeley will return as Lucy.
In the newly released image, Jones is seen at the head of a table looking at the camera during a dinner party as her guests chat over food and drinks.
Several new cast members have joined the programme, including Slow Horses star Dustin Demri-Burns, who will play Gemma’s new partner Callum.
Other newcomers include The Serpent Queen star Rosalie Craig, Grantchester’s Gracie Oddie-James and Top Boy star Michael Balogun.
In series two, Gemma discovered her husband was having an affair and enacted revenge, but the fallout resulted in her 15-year-old son Tom disappearing.
In series three, she has met someone new and is on the brink of getting married, but events from the past re-emerge and threaten her reputation.
Doctor Foster proved popular with audiences when it first aired in 2015 and 2017, with the season two finale watched by nearly 10 million people.
Jones also won a BAFTA for her lead role as Gemma.
She previously said of returning to the show: “When I got the call to ask if I wanted to return as Gemma Foster, I knew the time was right.
“We needed space from the first two series, and we needed Tom – Gemma and Simon’s runaway son – to return as an adult with questions.
“For me, this time around, it’s about accountability and questioning – can we ever truly sever ties with our past and the damage or traumas that haunt us, so we can fully move forward?
“Gemma and Simon have so much to unpick!
“It’s been an exciting time working with the brilliant Mike Bartlett again, and the team at Drama Republic on the scripts and now I can’t wait to start filming.”
Doctor Foster returns to BBC One and BBC iPlayer next year.
