BBC Four and CBBC will end as linear TV channels over the next few years as part of the latest round of cuts at the broadcaster. Director-general Tim Davie announced to staff on Thursday that 1,000 jobs will also be lost across the public-funded part of the corporation.
BBC World News and BBC News Channel will merge to create a single 24-hour TV news channel serving both UK and international audiences. Regional TV news programmes in Oxford and Cambridge are also among the services being scrapped as part of the “blueprint to build a digital-first public service media organisation”.
Mr Davie told staff: “This is our moment to build a digital-first BBC. Something genuinely new, a Reithian organisation for the digital age, a positive force for the UK and the world.
