What is The Tuckers all about?

Jams Thomas as Clock in The Tuckers (BBC)

The Tuckers is about The Tucker family. They run a catering business, not always successfully, and a few things on the side, not always legit. Peggy rules the roost, with Glyn, her son, next in command.

Glyn's children, Billy and Bobby, are never far from trouble and Bobby’s ex-wife, Natalie, lives next door - with Shaks, a young girl with an appetite for mayhem.

The family bickers endlessly but if you cross one Tucker, you cross them all, and you’ll think twice about crossing them again (especially Grampa Murphy, who spends most of his time in an outside toilet, armed with a gun).

Who is in The Tuckers?

Steve Speirs

Glyn Tucker and Murphy, played by Steve Speirs and Robert Pugh (BBC)

Steve Speirs both writes and stars in The Tuckers and plays Glyn Tucker, who is constantly up against it trying to survive in a terraced house with his mother Peggy (Lynn Hunter) and his two tearaway sons Billy (Joshua McCord) and Bobby (Ben McGregor).

You might recognise the Welsh actor from both the Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean franchises. He has also made numerous appearances in British television programmes, including Not Going Out, Big School and Doctor Who.

Speirs has previously said that he believes the all-Welsh cast was essential to the making of The Tuckers:

"Casting an all-Welsh cast for The Tuckers was absolutely vital. Everything would have fallen apart if that wasn’t the case. We were very lucky to find the right people for the series and that just shows the depth of talent there is in Wales. The mixture of experienced actors and some new faces makes the series work so well."

Lynn Hunter

Peggy Tucker, played by Lynn Hunter (BBC)

Lynn Hunter plays Peggy Tucker - the matriarch of the show. She rules the roost in the Tucker household.

A profilic Welsh actress, Hunter has had roles in Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, The Story of Tracy Beaker, Submarine and Doctors.

Steve Speirs said of her character: “Peggy represents all those matriarchs of the valleys. I was born and bred in the valleys, in Merthyr Tydfil, and it’s a very matriarchal society where the men think they’re in charge, but the people who do all the work and hold everything together are the women!”

Robert Pugh

Murphy played by Robert Pugh (BBC)

Starring as Murphy is Game of Thrones actor, Robert Pugh. Murphy is the uncle of the Tucker family, who lives in a toilet in the garden.

Robert's other roles include ones in Doctor Who, Torchwood and Doctor Foster. He is also the narrator of the BBC series, The Repair Shop.

Kimberley Nixon

Lush (played by Kimberley Nixon) and the other cast of The Tuckers (BBC)

Fresh Meat's Kimberley Nixon plays Lush in The Tuckers. Her character is known for her saying, "That's lush that is?" and appears in both the first and second series of the show.

Nixon is no stranger to comedy and one of her most renowned roles was that of Josie Jones in Fresh Meat. She has also had appearances in Death in Paradise, Cranford and Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging.

Alexandria Riley

Natalie, played by Alexandria Riley (BBC)

Somewhat of a rising star in recent years, Alexandria Riley plays estranged(ish) daughter-in-law Natalie, the next door neighbour to the Tuckers.

Perhaps her most credible role is that of DI Ella Richards in The Pembrokeshire Murders in 2021. However, Alexandria has also featured in The Pact, In My Skin and The End of the F***ing World.

When can you watch The Tuckers?

The Tuckers airs on BBC Two on Thursday, July 21 at 10pm. The full two series are currently available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
