Like many of us, Brown has a hidden talent - but his is a little more impressive than most.
Brown is in fact a former world champion in Thai boxing.
Speaking to MMA Weekly, the star said: "When I was about 15 years old, one of my best mates was a black belt in Jiu-Jitsu, and the place he trained at had recently started a Thai boxing class.
"He asked if I came along and I said, “Sure, why not?” I just fell in love with Thai boxing straight away.
"Quite early on I found I had a knack for it and was actually pretty good at it. It just kind of took over my life."
He went on to win three British titles, a Commonwealth title and a week after his 21st birthday, he was crowned a WAKO world champion in the light-welterweight division.
It's not unheard of for sportsmen to move over into the entertainment field, and Brown did this successfully, landing roles including playing the evil Andy Holt in Hollyoaks in the mid 2000s.
Despite being 27 years old at the time, his youthful good looks helped him win the role of the student.
He was nominated for Best Villain, Most Spectacular Scene, and Best Exit at the 2006 British Soap Awards - after his character was killed off.
He also starred in a Batman film, appearing as a member of Bane's Mercenary Security in The Dark Knight Rises, the third instalment of Christopher Nolan's word-famous trilogy.
From May 2010, he appeared as the regular character of DS Justin Ripley in the BBC drama Luther - a role he reprised the following year in subsequent series.
The Radio Times description for tonight's episode reads: "After talking to his therapist, Chris makes the decision to do the right thing and plans to hand the drugs in, until Carl makes him an offer he can't refuse.
"Rachel strikes a deal with Mullen, but is conflicted when Chris opens up to her, and they both discover they have some common ground.
"Carl and Jodie are forced to consider leaving town to escape from a gang they owe money to."
The third episode of the BBC five-part drama airs tonight (January 31) at 9pm on BBC One.
