He gave an absolutely stellar performance in the Eurovision final on Saturday but singer-songwriter Sam Ryder hasn't just been praised as a talented performer. Describing him as "positive, energetic and humble", his fans praised him in his latest TV appearance.
Appearing on Monday's episode of BBC's The One Show, Sam told presenters Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas of his whirlwind experience in Turin, Italy for the final of the renowned singing competition - and explained how he and his team had taken a break from social media in the run-up to the performance, so they could really get themselves focused without any distractions.
Sitting on The One Show's green sofa, alongside Top Gun actors Miles Teller and Jennifer Connelly, Sam wore his long hair down, with a simple pair of trousers and jumper combo. To add a bit of pizzazz, funky Sam wore a brightly coloured beaded necklace.
"I just feel so emotional, even just watching it [the performance] back - I'm still processing," he said. "Was it real? Did it happen? I'm gunna watch the whole thing back tonight and just enjoy it all over again."
He added: "When you're there experiencing it, not just as a performer but as a fan, being in that arena and feeling the palpable joy - it's like being in a church. Everything that Eurovision celebrates and is about is the best of us and I'm so, so grateful that I got to experience it."
"[When the scores were being announced], we were sat in the Green Room area so you've got all those fake bushes and chairs everywhere and I'm looking around - and this is a group of my best pals but I'm lucky also that they're my team so we've all worked on this since January - and you keep catching glimpses with each other.
"And without saying it, you just know everyone's thinking 'I can't believe we're here, in this room, sharing this space with all the other artists, all the other delegations who have had such an amazing time themselves and [an] incredible journey getting on to that stage in front of like 180 million people or something like that.
"And when the results started coming in - before that, we were already stoked; there was nothing that we needed more, we'd got everything that we needed from the experience, we were completely fulfilled - but when the first 12 points came in, I fell into a hedge! Off the chair [I just fell over]!"
