BBC The One Show's Alex Jones 'felt empty' after miscarriage

The One Show's Alex Jones has created a new documentary exploring fertility and IVF after her own pregnancy struggles.

The BBC's Welsh TV presenter opened up about her own miscarriage while speaking to morning TV host Lorraine Kelly. She told of how Alex Jones: Making Babies will explore the difficulties that people face when trying to get pregnant before bravely opening up on her own journey.

Alex spoke about the difficulties she faced while trying for a second baby after the birth of her first child Teddy. She said: "We didn't have a straightforward time, between the two boys, we had a loss then and quite late on and then it resulted in some complications. I didn't go down the IVF route, we thought we might have to but we didn't in the end."

She shares three children, with her husband Charlie Thomson - Kit, Teddy and Charlotte.

Speaking to the Telegraph previously, Alex said: "We actually got pregnant in October 2017, when Teddy was 10 months, and we lost that baby. I didn’t realise for a long time because I had been breastfeeding and your periods don’t come back straight away.

"We learnt the baby didn’t have a heartbeat. I was around 14 weeks, which is a decent amount of time. The baby had stopped developing at about nine weeks. That was really hard. It hit us like a ton of bricks."

Alex made the decision to return to work as soon as possible after her loss, as she just felt "empty". She said: "I said, 'What else am I going to do?'

"It’s a horrible feeling because it is so empty. There’s nothing to say. It’s done."

Alex Jones: Making Babies, will air on W Channel on Thursday, December 5 at 8pm
