BBC The Control Room viewers slam leading character for 'Mr Bean' decisions

Another episode of The Control Room aired on BBC One on Monday night, and fans are likening the leading character to a ditzy cartoon.

In the second episode, Gabe (Iain De Caestecker) is embroiled in even more shady antics as he carries out a drugs run for his emergency call handler buddy Anthony, but the deal goes wrong as the police show up. Thankfully, Gabe escapes the clutches of the law for the second time, due to his running (which we've seen a lot of in this show), and hides the money successfully.

However, the money mysteriously goes missing, and Gabe returns to find his flat ransacked and memories of his late mum ruined by the drug gang. Heat is rising on the young lead character, and time is running out to make things right.

And to make things worse, the van containing the dead body he is entrusted to hide by former flame Sam has gone missing, and is now impounded by the police after his uncle took the van to his family home to visit his father on the anniversary of Gabe's mothers death. Will Gabe run out of time to make things right, or will he get out of this mess alive?

Fans have been split over the plotline of this show, but now viewers are slamming Iain's performance of Gabe, likening him to a lovable ditzy cartoon character - which usually would be a compliment, but not in a thrilling drama type of way.

One Twitter user commented: "I had high hopes for the control room series on BBC but it’s slowly turning in to Mr Bean."

Another wrote: "BBC - The control Room . Sorry BBC but what the hell is it all about ? I started off in the first 5 mins thinking this is going to be a brilliant drama but after another 10 mins it fizzled out into a another obscure drama with a lead character that is completely unbearable !!"

And a third added: "Over the years the BBC has given us a lot of rubbish to watch. Well, frankly to date The Control Room has got to be the biggest lot of junk on TV, and there is already a great deal. The lead Gabe has got to be among the biggest idiot imaginable. If you haven’t seen it don’t worry."

Another Twitter user questioned the reality of the show, writing: "Started watching The Control Room on BBC. It's alright, but I really don't believe the police would put that much resource into what could just as easily have been a prank call. A bit of shouting, a call, and no body? No way they'd assign a detective and team to look into it."

A fifth said: "Sorry but is Gabo a complete idiot or what?? Loosing patience which The Control Room #BBC."

And finally, one concluded: "What annoys me most, when the BBC put on rubbish we have paid for it. I do hate wasting money don’t you? I dislike it even more, when no one refers it to me. The writer of the Control Room has a serious problem. How do I know this? Every writer puts a lot of themselves in a story."

Will The Control Room redeem itself to audiences tonight? Or will the story fizzle out at the end of the last episode? Only time will tell.

The third episode of The Control Room will air on Tuesday, July 19 at 9pm on BBC One. The entire series is available now on BBC iPlayer.
