BBC Strictly viewers notice something 'missing' from Eurovision hero Sam Ryder's 'glorious' performance as he opens show

UK's Eurovision star Sam Ryder was back to put a smile on faces as he performed an eighties classic on Strictly Come Dancing. Sam, who was hailed a "national hero" when he came second at the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin, Italy behind Ukraine's Kalush Orchestra, belted out the John Farnham power ballad You're The Voice at the opening of Sunday night's results show.

Sam, who finished first in the Eurovision jury vote and second overall with the song Space Man, was back on the BBC to wow with his impressive pipes again. The compliments came pouring in for his rendition of the song as Strictly professionals performed alongside their 'mini' versions after the stars spoke in a short film about their dreams of becoming dancers and their journey to performing at the iconic Blackpool Tower Ballroom this weekend.

@AlfieS12 tweeted: "Who knew I needed to hear Sam Ryder singing John Farnham?"@uisgebeatha exclaimed excitedly: "Sam covering John Farnham!!"

@houseofcaley wrote: "I know I’m quite sleep deprived today but the combo of Sam Ryder’s gorgeous voice and an emotional pro dance can apparently cause me to absolutely weep????" @DannyDenay said: "Anything Sam Ryder does is beyond glorious." And @JackTheFact29 messaged: "Sam Ryder covering 'You're the Voice' is sublime."

However it wasn't lost on fans that the original song featured an epic bagpipe solo which didn't make it into Sam's version. @neilriach commented: "Sam Ryder doing a really good version of John Farnhams Your The Voice. Just need some bagpipes." And @julianhilaire asked: "Where’s the bagpipes?"

@meganpsitn tweeted: "This is lovely to watch....bit sad it's not bagpipes (as in the original) but Sam's actually playing so I don't mind lol."

Later Sam performed his latest single, All the Way Over. @sl2016_sl tweeted: "Strictly are getting their money’s worth out of the lovely Sam Ryder this weekend!" And @iamheatherh wrote: "Sam Ryder singing twice! He is booked and busy and we love to see it."
