Gavin and Stacey fans tuning in to Strictly Come Dancing's 2022 Christmas Special got more than they bargained for when the hit BBC show reunited two of the sitcom's stars on Christmas day special. Larry Lamb, who danced alongside Nadiya Bychkova in the special episode, was shocked when he received a message from former co-star Alison Steadman.
Larry and Alison played Mick and Pam Shipman in Gavin and Stacey, which last aired an episode on Christmas Day 2019. Prior to receiving his scores from the judges, Alison, who we recently saw with Larry in an ITV DNA Journey episode, appeared via video link and said to Larry: “Hi Larry! Hi! Congratulations on your American Smooth! Wow! Brilliant! I am sending you lots and lots of love."
Whilst Larry and Nadiya ultimately came bottom of the leaderboard, viewers were thrilled by the unexpected Gavin and Stacey reunion. Read on to hear what they had to say about it.
One person commented: “OMG PAM!!!” and another wrote in a similar vein: “PAM ON THE TELLY.” A third then added: "I mean we kinda got a Pam and Michael reunion.” Elsewhere, someone said of the reunion: "I would absolutely watch a Gavin and Stacey spin off with just Pam and Mick. Give the people what they want @BBCiPlayer."
Ever since it last hit our screens in 2019, viewers have been crying out for more Gavin and Stacey. Earlier this year, co-creator Ruth Jones (who also plays Nessa Jenkins in the show) addressed rumours of a return. Speaking on The One Show, she said: "You know what, at the moment, there are no plans to do anymore. But James Corden is an absolute joy and I love him like he is my brother, and I love the fact he’s coming back to the UK next year. More than anything, I just want to see more of him and if we get to write together, that will be double bubble as Gwen would say. But never say never." You can read more about her appearance here.
