Kym Marsh, who is famous for her role as Michelle Connor on the ITV soap Coronation Street, is set to appear in the 2022 series of Strictly Come Dancing. She currently co-presents BBC Morning Live with Welsh presenter Gethin Jones and she will be heading into the Strictly world of glitz and glamour.
The star, who shot to fame in the pop band Hear'Say, has revealed her heartbreaking reason for taking part in the dancing show. Her father, David, has been diagnosed with incurable cancer and this has encouraged Kym to do as much as she can, as the Daily Mail reports.
She said: "Since he was diagnosed last March I've just decided to grab everything while I can. Without being melancholy, we don't know how long we've got him for, so you've got to make the best of these situations. My dad's diagnosis does change things. He's been telling me for years, ''You never know what's around the corner, so grab things with both hands'.''
Kym revealed in June 2021 that her father David, 77, had been diagnosed with incurable prostate cancer last year after delaying going to a doctor during lockdown. The cancer has spread to his pelvis, spine, ribs and left leg.
The star is looking forward to her dad being able to watch her in the Strictly Come Dancing audience alongside her husband Scott Ratcliff, an Army major who she married in October 2021. It's been a busy time for Kym as she will also be starring in the re-make of the BBC drama Waterloo Road.
Kym will be stepping into the role of Nicky Walters. Nicky is a dinner lady and mum to two children at the school. Waterloo Road is set to return to the BBC in autumn 2022.
Strictly Come Dancing will begin on Friday, September 23 after the show was pushed back a week due to the death of Queen Elizabeth II and her funeral.
