BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Will Mellor says he 'lost' training time as he kept crying - while Nancy Xu forced to make change

Will Mellor faced reduced time in training for this weekend's Strictly Come Dancing due to being overcome with emotion. The Two Pints of Lager actor has been a hit with viewers of the BBC One dance contest as he competes alongside Nancy Xu.

After wowing both fans and judges with his snake hips and serious storytelling, Strictly viewers are going to see a different side of Will during week eight in the competition as he and Nancy perform a Waltz to Commodores track Three Times A Lady. But it appears rehearsals have been difficult.

Speaking on Loose Women on Thursday (November 10) alongside Nancy, actor Will, from Bredbury, revealed they lost vital practice time because he kept crying during rehearsals. "It was one of my dad’s favourite songs, he used to sing it to my mum," he shared with the panel - Kaye Adams, Judi Love, Carol McGiffin, and Nadia Sawalha. It comes just a couple of years after Will's dad, Bill, died.

He went on: "I couldn’t get through Monday without crying, it was just so hard. It’s weird, grief, when you lose somebody you think “It’s gone, I can talk about it now.” And then something happens and it grabs you. And I couldn’t talk. And it was weird. So we lost a lot of Monday because I couldn’t concentrate."

But Will, 46, shared how he was determined to keep going and progressing in the competition, adding that his father "lives in me now" and he wanted to make him, and his Strictly fan mum, proud. Meanwhile, pro dancer Nancy joked she had to sing the song herself during the practice as they couldn’t play the real version.

Earlier this week Will made an emotional appearance Strictly spin-off It Takes Two. "It's tough, it's good, it's a very emotional song for me. It means a lot to me, this song. So it's been an emotional day, it's been a bit of a cloud," he told host Rylan Clark about training.

"She's [Nancy] been trying to teach me but I've not been myself. I've been a bit emotional. It's a song me dad used to sing to me mum. I didn't choose the song but they sort of said, do you want to do it. But it is just absolutely means a lot.

"And what's very strange is, when you go through grief, you think you can talk about things and then you hear songs and all of a sudden it hits you like a tonne of bricks. And this routine, I was dancing with Nancy today, and I was in bits. But you know what, it will be an honour on the night to do it and I just hope I can hold it together because today I've been all over the place."
