BBC Strictly Come Dancing's Kaye Adams suffers awkward encounter hours after being first star eliminated from show

Kaye Adams has shared the awkward encounter she suffered hours after it was revealed that she was the first celebrity to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing. The Loose Women star found herself up against singer Matt Goss in the dance-off during Sunday night's results show.

The judges’ scores this week were added to those from last week, and were then combined with the results of the viewers’ votes to decide the lowest-scoring two couples.

After finding herself in the bottom two, Kaye, 59. performed her latest routine with partner Kai Widdrington for the second time after Saturday evening's second live show of the 20th series of the BBC One dance contest.

The pair danced the Charleston to Music! Music! Music! before Bros singer Matt, 54, took to the dancefloor with his partner Nadiya Bychkova to perform their samba to Night Fever by the Bee Gees in a bid to impress the judges and remain in the competition.

After both the couples had danced a second time, the judging panel delivered their verdicts. Craig Revel Horwood chose to save Matt and Nadiya, saying: "Well the couple for me, that I considered danced the best on the night, and the couple I would like to save is Matt and Nadiya."

Motsi Mabuse also opted to save the couple and said: "Well that was so close, both couples made mistakes. I feel like they were on the same level, but one couple was a little bit better for me, and I am saving Matt and Nadiya." While Anton Du Beke locked in a third vote for Kaye and Kai to be sent home, meaning they had received the majority of the vote and would be the first couple to leave the competition this series.

The show's former professional dancer Anton said: "Well it wasn’t a vintage dance-off, and I know exactly how they feel and I’ve been in that position many times myself and I think if you had the chance you would like to go again, both of you. There were a lot of mistakes for both couples, I felt that one couple lost performance as well, and because of that I would like to save Matt and Nadiya."

But despite their exit already being confirmed, head judge Shirley Ballas revealed that she would have saved the departing couple. When asked by host Tess Daly if she agreed with her fellow judges, she said: "I didn’t, I thought due to a little better quality, I would have saved Kaye and Kai."

When asked by Tess about her time on the show, Kaye, who was being supported by Loose Women co-star Nadia Sawalha in the live audience, said: "It was the right result and I did make mistakes, and when it comes to that high-pressured situation that’s what happens.

"So I am delighted for Matt and Nadiya, the only person I am just sorry for is this wonderful man (Kai), who has just been so brilliant… It was a hell of a lot of fun, I said my ambition was to learn to love to dance, and actually I have seen a whole new side to myself, it’s opened a little door. It’s been a wonderful experience and to spend time with such talented people who love the show so much has been a joy."

But hours after Strictly fans watched her final dance, Kaye took to Twitter to share the very awkward situation she found herself in while staying in a hotel. Taking to Twitter, the presenter typed: "Just ordered room service in my hotel. The nice lady who brought it asked me ‘any idea who went out of @bbcstrictly tonight.?’ I said ‘me’ awkward silence."

Former BBC Breakfast host Dan Walker, who competed in the hit show alongside Nadiya last year, was among the first to reply, writing: "Major League awkwardness. We enjoyed watching you Kaye. I hope you made some good friends and have some lovely memories."

And fans felt bad for Kaye and continued to show her support. @podkas1 said: "Bless you - you were lovely." @Gregflucker commented: "The actual awkwardness is making me cringe from here. Poor woman. Poor @kayeadams, too." @Kirsty_Mo shared: "Doesn't matter when you went out Kaye, you actually had the guts to go and do it in the first place. I'd never have the bottle to do that."

@xx_tv_shows_xx replied: "Oh no that’s actually so sad. Hope ur alright! U smashed it! Never give up." @shevvyt shared: "Oh no! I voted for you and am really sorry that you won't be dancing next week. A real shame. Maybe knowing that you would have had Shirley’s vote is some consolation. Look forward to seeing you on @loosewome n." @Candleford added: "I loved your performances with Kai, Kaye. Sorry to see you leave so early in the show. Keep Dancing."
