Strictly Come Dancing star James Bye has shown off the gruesome injury he has picked up during rehearsals. The EastEnders actor is currently preparing for week three on the BBC One dance show alongside professional partner Amy Dowden.
James, who plays Martin Fowler in the BBC One soap, is starring on the current 20th series of the dancing competition but has still been busy filming scenes in Albert Square with Amy heading down to the set to squeeze in all the rehearsal time they can.
On Tuesday night (October 4), James and Amy appeared on Strictly spin-off It Takes Two to reflect on their performance on Saturday night and look ahead to this weekend's Movie Week performance. The couple are currently preparing for their upcoming dance routine in which James will be taking on the role of Star-Lord from Guardians of the Galaxy.
But he then revealed to host Rylan Clark that while trying to impress Amy with his fitness skills, he caused some damage to his wedding ring finger and didn't hesitate to show off the injury on the live BBC Two show.
Dad-of-three James told Rylan how he was aiming to show off his strength during the challenging number – but as he flexed his muscles to partner Amy, he admitted he took things a little too far and was left with his finger almost hanging off. "I was trying to show Amy how strong I was in the rehearsal room so I did a few pull-ups…" he explained.
Amy giggled as James began to lift his hand into view. The soap star went on: "I ripped my finger open," to which audible gasps could be heard from the team in the show's studio." Baffled by what happened, Rylan repeated: "The finger almost fell off?" James replied: "The wedding ring is sort of the only thing keeping my finger on," while giving a quick flash of his bloodied bandage.
James was able to laugh and admitted: "We’ll see how we get on with that one!" to which Rylan joked: "He lives another day to tell the tale – that’s what it’s all about."
He has also been revealing how his bronzed Strictly tan will be incorporated into the EastEnders script as he continues to appear on-screen in both the ballroom and the Square. Speaking to the Express, James said: "I've just put a line in that I've been down to the beach for the weekend. I can't not have a spray tan, you're on Strictly, you've got to have a spray tan whether you like it or not."
James also said that former EastEnders co-star and last year's Strictly winner Rose Ayling-Ellis has given him some advice, stating: "She has been a ray of sunshine. She said: 'Take every second in as it goes so quick'. She was there every week, she did the full thing and she said even that went so fast."
