Strictly Come Dancing fans complained Helen Skelton and Gorka Marquez had been 'robbed' as they missed out on lifting the Glitterball trophy. Viewers tuned in on Saturday night (December 17) to see who was crowned the champions of the BBC dance contest for 2022.
It was down to Helen and Gorka, Molly Rainford and Carlos Gu, Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystal, and Fleur East and Vito Coppola to fight it out on the dancefloor with three routines each. And after all 12 routines were complete, it was over to viewers to choose their winners.
And it was revealed by Tess Daly and Claudia Winkelman that it was wildlife camera Hamza Yassin who would be walking away with the coveted Glitterball trophy with professional dance partner Jowita, whose first year it was in Strictly with a celebrity dance partner.
Upon learning of his win, Hamza broke down into tears. When asked by the hosts for his reaction, an emotional Hamza, 32, said: "It’s hard to describe how I feel…Jovita you are an angel disguised as a human being."
After the three advisory scores were given by the judges, Fleur and Vito were top of the leaderboard with 119 points, with Helen and Gorka coming second on 116 points. Molly and Carlos received a total of 115 points, while hamza and Jowita came bottom with a total 113 points.
But the public vote ultimately decided who lifted the coveted glitterball trophy for 2022. And it seems not everyone was happy with it being Hamza and Jowita as they picked Helen and Gorka as their winners. @KarinaSays6973 tweeted: "Liked the rest of the couples but Helen and Gorka were ROBBED! Fleur and Vito too with a near perfect score #Strictly."
@bond_0817 said: "Gutted for @gorkamarquez1 he’s waited a long time to win #Strictly I really thought it was his tonight but congratulations to #jowita and #hamza." @_milliejohnson posted: "I’m sorry but Helen and gorka were genuinely robbed. Hamza was good and I’m happy for Jowita but they hadn’t improved in weeks. First year I’ve been fuming at the result #Strictly."
@FranParratt shared: "It’s a dancing competition not a personality competition #Strictly #StrictlyComeDancing2022 gutted. Helen & Gorka should have won….just saying." @sophd221b added: "Noooo, Helen should have won, she deserved the win and so did Gorka#Strictly."
And others were quick to spot Gorka's reaction as he applauded Hamza and Jowita's win. @WitchieWheels said: "#Strictly Poor Gorka was gutted." @uncollectedtots noted: "Gorka doesn’t look pleased at all. He has a face like a thunder. #Strictly #BBCStrictly." @CarolineNewell1 wrote: "Poor Gorka absolutely can't hide his disappointment. His face #Strictly."
@Hels_Bels71 shared: "Gorka’s little face when the result was announced How gutted was he?! #Strictly." @Wee_Sio argued: "Poor Gorka. I think he was more in shock that Helen lost, rather than Hamza won. Him and Helen had the best last dance... bit of an anti-climax #Strictly." @JO_ROCKS1 added: "Gorka looked heartbroken, bless him. He's such a great dancer and very unlucky in his finals. #Strictly."
