BBC Strictly Come Dancing fans issue demand for judges over Tony Adams response to Shirley Ballas

Strictly Come Dancing viewers want an apology for the judges on the hit TV show after Tony Adams responded to contestant Shirley Ballas' score. The former footballer danced with his partner Katya Jones on the episode that aired on Saturday, October 22.

The team danced to the cha-cha to the Grandstand theme tune on the live show which marked a century of the BBC. The national broadcaster marked 100 years on October 18 and, to mark the occasion, the contestants danced to classic BBC theme songs, reported Manchester Evening News.

Former Arsenal star Tony ended up at the bottom of the scoreboard after scoring just 19 points. Head judge, Shirley Ballas, had some strong words while she critiqued the performance. She told him: "I love you dearly. Keep going because you're what the show is all about."

Meanwhile, Motsi Mabuse struggled to contain her laughter as she gave her thoughts while appearing to be in slight disbelief. Craig Revel Horwood said: “I don’t know how to describe what I’ve just seen. You put everything into it.”

But as Tony, 54, climbed the stairs to join Claudia Winkleman and receive his score, he looked unimpressed to receive a low score of 4 from Shirley. With a dismissive wave of his arm, he yelled out: "Shirley, go home." Strictly viewers were left in stitches and claimed Tony's outburst was the 'highlight of the night'.

Others, however, wanted the judges to take their comments to Tony and Katya more seriously. One viewer said: "Wish the judges would recognise he’s not just joking around and is taking it seriously. Give him constructive feedback like you would anyone else!" Another posted: "Want Tony to stay in purely to spite the judges at this point. He is trying so hard but they are just laughing at him instead of pointing out his improvements and giving him constructive criticism like the others."

Another viewer commented: "We done Tony and Katia for tonight. Personally, if I was one of the judges tonight I would had praise Tony for his improvement and techniques.I think he did extremely well!" A fan noted: "Tony is improving each week. The judges don't recognize and just make fun of him!"

Tony also got some sport from ITV's chief sport presenter for ITV Sport Mark Pougatch who tweeted: "Watching Tony Adams on Strictly every week is the laughter therapy this country desperately needs at the moment when everything else is so c*** #Strictly."
