BBC Six Nations pundit reveals he's standing down after Scotland v Wales following 20 years in commentary box

Former Scotland captain and BBC pundit Andy Nicol has announced he's standing down from his broadcasting role after 20 years in the commentary box.

A tourist with the British and Irish Lions, Nicol becomes the third member of the BBC team to depart in the past year. He follows fellow Lions Jeremy Guscott and Brian Moore out of the door.

The former scrum-half, 51, announced the news on Twitter, stating that Scotland v Wales on Saturday, February 11, would be his final contribution to match coverage with the BBC.

He said: "After 20 years with BBC Sport the Scotland v Wales game on Saturday will be my last on TV. It’s been a total privilege to work for the BBC on 'Six Nations Rugby' for so long. Thank you!"

ITV commentator Nick Mullins replied: "20 years? Get outta town. Always so much fun to watch games with you. We never got to do it often enough. You sure you can’t stay for another 20?"

Former Scotland captain Kelly Brown also gave his thanks, saying: "Amazing shift, huge congrats Andy x"

Presenter Dan Walker and BBC commentator Andrew Sheridan also left messages of appreciation.

The BBC's refreshed Six Nations line-up involves the likes of Sam Warburton, former Scotland international John Barclay and Ireland legend Tommy Bowe.
