The BBC is taking a leaf out of Netflix’s book to try and create a headline grabbing reality show about estate agents following the huge success of property porn show Selling Sunset.
The Beeb has been battling for attention from streaming sites since Netflix, Disney+, Apple TV and more started vying for attention from viewers.
Selling Sunset had been a runaway success since it started streaming on Netflix back in 2019 – with cameras showing off incredible multi-million pound properties in Los Angeles as well as the drama in the lives of the estate agents who are trying to sell them.
Now the Beeb is trying to get in on the real estate drama themselves by commissioning a new show called Crazy Rich Agents which will show off some of the most expensive homes in the country.
A source told The Sun on Sunday: “This bonkers doc follows the lives of hot, young agents in the UK luxury property market who are cutting their teeth in the trade.
“There is a real vibe of ‘fake it ’til you make it’ and a lot of bravado flying around.”
Reports say the houses won’t be restricted to just one city – with Scottish castles, homes in the Sandbanks and mega-mansions in London all set to be explored.
Meanwhile, it seems there will be plenty of drama yet to come on Selling Sunset when the show returns with a sixth season after being renewed for at least two more seasons.
At the start of this year, US magazine reported the show would return for seasons six and seven following the success of the first four seasons on the streaming site.
A source told the outlet: “Everyone is very excited” and added that filming would resume after the cast had been given the chance to take a break following the completion of setons five’s filming.
One cast member who might not be back, however, is Christine Quinn who appeared to burn all her bridges at the end of season five as she tried to buy off perspective buyers from doing business with one of her colleagues inside the agency.
Company boss Jason Oppenheim has hinted Christine was given the sack for her behaviour after the season completed filming.
He said during a reunion show: "I spoke to [the man Christine tried to bride] in person, well I should say over the phone, and I know the gentleman, I've met him and I asked him many follow up questions and he was very clear about exactly what happened.
"So, I would love to hear Christine's explanation, I do believe there are sides to stories but at the same time, I don't think it's for debate that she did this," he continued.
"So we've texted and we haven't really addressed this situation. I mean, she hasn't reached out to talk about it. I know that she has some thoughts on it..."
Then when asked about her role at the brokerage, Jason replied: "I mean, right now, there's not a place for her at The Oppenheim Group.”
