BBC Scotland's Home of the Year fans divided as water tank house triumphs

BBC's Scotland's Home of the Year paid a visit to the East in search for the most spectacular home, to join the rest of the finalists in next week's grand, last episode.

In the running was a sleek self-designed family home in Aberdeenshire, a colourful new build in Dundee and a one-of-a-kind former water tank transformed into a dream family home.

Anna, Kate and Michael start their search at Mack Lodge, north of Inverurie in Aberdeenshire - home to Amanda and Graeme, daughters Laila and Lucie, Indy the dog and Peaky the cat.

Built on the plot of an ice-cream farm, Mack Lodge’s ground floor includes a large open plan kitchen dining and living space, playroom, snug and salon which Amanda uses for her beauty business.

Upstairs, there’s a family bathroom, gym and three bedrooms including a master with ensuite bathroom and his and her walk-in wardrobes.

Mack Lodge scored a respectable 26, sitting them in good stead to battle it out with the other homes.

Next is Our Adapted Home, a customised new build in Dundee home to Katie and Daniel, daughter Jessica and dogs, Angus and Percy.

Teenager Jessica is disabled and the home has been completely adapted to make day-to-day life easier for her and all the family. As well as being functional, Our Adapted Home is bright and colourful with homeowner Katie injecting bold schemes throughout.

Comfortable and inviting, Our Adapted Home has an ensuite bedroom and man cave on the first floor. On the ground floor there’s an open plan kitchen dining and living space, Jessica’s bedroom with adjoining wet room and her day room.

Our Adapted Home also scored 26 points, setting the show up for a cracking draw at the end - but what was next?

Finally, the judges visit The Old Waterworks - a unique conversion near Crail in Fife, home for the last five years to Ewan and Sam, their children Sophie and Rueben and Golden Retriever, Coco.

Euan did much of the work himself, converting the former concrete water tank into a distinctive family home.

The Old Waterworks boasts an L-shaped kitchen dining and living space, two bathrooms, three bedrooms including a master with bathtub and walk-in wardrobe.

And, to make the most of the Fife sunshine, there’s a sun room which opens on to a social space.

This home extremely impressed the judges, who gave The Old Waterworks a full house of 30 points, meaning it was going to the final of Scotland's Home of the Year next Monday.

Fans of the show were divided in opinion on social media, with The Old Waterworks acting much like Marmite - you either love or hate it!

One Twitter user wrote: "I've waited right through the whole series of #shoty to finally get that "when we win the Euromillions we're buying that one" moment with that final house in Fife tonight.

"House 3 was the best of the series, a dream home. Now where did I put that lottery ticket?"

Another agreed, saying: "House 3 is what this competition is all about - overall winner of the series for me #shoty."

And a third wrote: "Loving this! #SHOTY"

But not everyone was as taken with the third home, as one Twitter user wrote: "#shoty S*** hoose of the year!!"

And another said: "Watching #shoty one thing is clear unless the inside of your house is like an explosion in a paint factory don’t bother entering as the judges are obsessed with “colour”, often giving 1m+ houses “7 points” despite the fact the majority of the population would kill to live in it!"

A third wrote: "Lots of fabulous homes but haven't felt that wow moment yet. #shoty"

However, there was one thing everybody was in agreement with, as one Twitter user said: "Not an exaggeration to say #SHOTY is my highlight of the year.

"A great crop of finalists this year too. Find it on iPlayer if you've missed out."

The final of BBC Scotland's Home of the Year will air on Monday, June 6 at 8pm - with an hour-long special to feature all of the finalists in perfect form!
