BBC Scotland's Home of the Year fans angered by 'toilet in bedroom' house

BBC Scotland's Home of the Year took a wee trip down to the Borders and South of the nation in order to find yet another finalist to add to the three already chosen.

So far, Lorne Cottage in Fort William, The Ostro Passive House in Kippen and The Pastel House in Orkney have made the finals for Scotland's Home of the Year.

And another was added on Monday night, as Firestation House snapped up the prize of a finalist slot, with an almost perfect score of 29/30!

Firestation House is situated in the heart of Hawick. Dating from the 1850s, the C-listed building is home to Sheena, John and their dog, Teddy.

The building’s fire-fighting past can be seen in the arch opening for the horse-drawn firewagon and the hinge pins on the exterior wall.

Latterly, the building was reincarnated as a church mission hall. When Sheena and John bought it six years ago, the building embraced another transformation having being empty for over 15 years.

However, as much as this home was the focal point for the show, viewers of Scotland's Home of the Year spotted something else that stood out.

One of the other contenders, Chestnut Lodge near Duns was a quirky home that was full to the brim of knick knacks and various unique offerings for the judges to ponder over.

However, fans of the show complained about the second house up for show, as comments stated it needed a good clean!

Fans flocked to social media to share their thoughts, with one Twitter user stating: "That second home is needing Marie Kondo’d and a good clean #shoty"

Another said: "…..all I talked about was the bloody dust & cobwebs! You’ve a camera crew coming round, FFS give it a once over with Mr Sheen! #SHOTY"

A third wasn't so happy with the winner, writing: "This weeks winner of #shoty is sweet, but looks like an ad for Wayfair or Made...."

And another even claimed the 'cobweb' house should've won, saying: "House number 2 should have won #shoty I wonder why I would say that…"

Further comments were not so satisfactory of the first home, Cornmill Cottage in Galashiels, with its 'open-plan' vibe.

One Twitter user said: ""open plan en-suite"... You have a s****** in your bedroom, neebur #SHOTY"

And another wrote: "It's a toilet in a bedroom ..... #shoty #nowords.

Next week, the judges will visit the Hebrides and Skye to pick out yet another home to be entered into the finale of BBC's Scotland's Home of the Year.

Tune in to find out who will snatch a top spot on Monday, May 2 at 8:30pm on BBC One Scotland.
