BBC's Platinum Jubilee Pageant blunder sparks viewers to immediately switch over

Viewers following the Platinum Jubilee Pageant on BBC immediately switched over within minutes of the procession starting.

The celebrations to mark Queen Elizabeth II's 70 years on the throne drew to a close today. The parade toured some of the most iconic streets in Westminster and featured the Gold State Carriage Her Majesty used for her coronation in 1953.

The procession will finish outside Buckingham Palace, where Ed Sheeran will perform for the grand finale of the Jubilee celebrations. Coverage of the event was being broadcast on the BBC, who interviewed a range of celebrities to capture the jubilant mood of the day.

The procession was set to start at 2.30pm, however viewers following the show on Twitter were confused as Kirsty Young was chatting to Jay Blades and Robert Hardman as the procession was about to take off.

Fans claimed they switched over to Sky News to catch the regal carriage as it set off from Buckingham Palace.

Ashleigh said: "Thanks for rambling on and making people miss the beginning of the parade"

Chantell posted: "If you're watching @BBC turn over to sky. No idea what the BBC is doing"

Rob commented : "@BBCOne so busy with interviews and their archive footage that the parade with the coach is half-way down the Mall by the time we finally get to see it."

Norfolk_Girl tweeted: "BBC fail again. On sky news showing royal coach, BBC showing tea parties"

Diane added: "BBC One are missing the coach leaving. D'oh!"

Alana posted: "The @BBCNews too busy chatting to actually show the parade"
