BBC's Huw Edwards has viewers in hysterics with election 'croissant' confession

Famous BBC News anchor Huw Edwards became even more of a legend in the eyes of many viewers on Friday morning after making a very honest confession whilst fronting the broadcaster's Local Elections coverage.

It was a late night, or early start, for many news hosts as Brits took to the polls on Thursday. And, while polling stations closed at 10pm, that was only the start of the Local Elections journey as ballot boxes were taken to the likes of schools, sports centres and town halls to be counted well into the early hours and Friday morning. News channels had rolling coverage of the latest developments and Local Election results from each region and local authority and, Huw clearly thought he'd earned a bit of a treat as he hosted the BBC's coverage, before many viewers had even woken up.

Huw was joined in the studio, with the clock at 5.37am, by BBC colleague Reeta Chakrabarti, who was talking through a chart of how Labour had performed so far, compared to the results in 2018. When she passed pack to Huw, he said: "Rita, thank very much," before wiping his mouth and adding: "I'm going to admit to you that I've just had a little bit of croissant and I'm ashamed to say that, but there you go."

Viewers were quick to react to Huw's on air confession, with one taking to Twitter to post: "No shame in a little bit of croissant Huw - breakfast of champions!" A second tweeted: "One should never be ashamed to admit to having eaten a little bit of croissant."

Cementing Huw's status as a TV icon, another commented: "Given that @thehuwedwards is a national treasure in Wales, and probably the other nations of Britain, that makes him an international treasure."
