Huw Edwards found himself issuing an apology on BBC News early on Thursday morning (May 6) but he needn't have worried as fans dubbed him a 'legend' after he was caught out during the election breakfast broadcast.
The veteran broadcaster was on screens early this morning as results from yesterday's (May 5) local elections began to trickle in. But amid all the political goings-on, Huw was forced to pause his broadcast to inform viewers of some 'breaking news'.
"I'm going to admit to you that I’ve just had a little bit of croissant and I’m just finishing it," the 60-year-old said, wiping his mouth as the cameras returned to the studio ready for him to continue on with his broadcast.

"I’m ashamed to say that but there you go," he added before squinting past the cameras and saying: "It’s 20 to six in the morning…" and carrying on as if nothing had happened at all. But viewers, of course, were hitting social media to share their amusement and reassure Huw that no apology was needed.
Tweeting a clip of the moment, TV critic and broadcaster Scott Bryan tweeted: "BREAKING: @thehuwedwards has just eaten a little bit of a croissant."
In response, @darrenbjohn said: "Dear @thehuwedwards, Don't be ashamed. Live your best croissant life," as @farnie commented: "What a guy! We have all been this person on teams calls up and down the land. Huw is representing while presenting."
@onmoonlitshores replied: "I love watching that man on TV. He could eat a three course meal during the news and I would forgive him and watch."
"Huw Edwards is a national treasure. This is just lovely," @JPvichar shared while @BernardLonergan commented: "God I love him even more now."
It's not the first time Huw has become a viral sensation thanks to his laid back nature. In 2017 a technical fault led to him being shown sitting in silence at the start of the BBC News At Ten. Some viewers saw him seemingly unaware that the cameras were rolling for a few minutes as he wrote notes and looked down at a screen.
After the broadcast, Edwards tweeted a photograph of a can of ale along with the words: "I think I’m going to enjoy this little beauty after that Ten. Iechyd da!"
