BBC's Denise Lewis hungover on Commonwealth Games live broadcast as confession startles hosts

Denise Lewis shocked her BBC colleagues when she admitted she was 'hanging' live on air during a Commonwealth Games broadcast.

Denise, Olympic champion in the heptathlon at the Sydney games in 2000 and a British athletics legend, is one of a number of well known pundits for the broadcaster's coverage of the much buzzed about Birmingham event.

And, as another day of live action from track and field kicked off on Thursday, she joined hosts Jason Mohammad and Holly Hamilton in the studio.

The BBC presenters and viewers tuning in at home were just watching the end of a race, with commentary from Paula Radcliffe, when cameras cut back to the studio and Denise appeared on screen

Jason remarked: "I'm delighted to say Denise has joined us this morning on the Morning Show," before asking Denise: "How are you?"

He didn't get the response he was expecting though, when Denise swiftly replied: "I'm hanging!"

As Holy started laughing and Jason looked taken aback by her answer and told her: "That wasn't the answer I was expecting," Denise added: "But it's fantastic. I'm having the best time you see, because there is so much good stuff going on.

"Last night at the track was electric, so we're all kind of feeling that spirit," as Holly quipped: "You looked like you were enjoying yourself last night too, I have to say. It was just a fantastic evening."

Holly then moved things onto discuss what events were on Thursday's athletics schedule at the Commonwealths, but viewers were all over what Denise had just said. Rushing to Twitter, one amused fan posted: "Not Denise Lewis saying on National TV that she is hungover," with another quoting the exchange between Jason and Denise and adding crying laughing emojis.
