BBC's Clive Myrie makes poignant observation as he anchors Queen's death coverage

Clive Myrie made a poignant observation about Her Majesty The Queen, which resonated with many people watching at home, while hosting BBC News coverage of her death on Thursday night.

News came in at just after 6.30pm that Queen Elizabeth II had died at Balmoral a few hours earlier, at the age of 96, as several senior members of the Royal Family headed to Scotland to be with her. The BBC had abandoned all of its planned programming at lunchtime, when a statement confirmed The Queen was under medical supervision, with rolling news coverage dominating BBC One.

In the moments before The Queen's death was announced, the BBC were showing people gathering outside of Buckingham Palace, before camera cut live to Clive's colleague Huw Edwards, who'd been in the studio all afternoon, wearing a black tie, to anchor the coverage. The popular presenter took a moment to compose himself, before reading out the statement from Buckingham Palace.
