BBC's Call The Midwife series finale 'delayed' as fans rage at having to wait for Trixie wedding

Call The Midwife viewers have furiously hit out at the BBC for pushing back the series finale of the hit drama, after fans have been building up to much loved character Trixie's wedding.

When she made her eagerly anticipated return to Poplar for the show's Christmas special, Trixie had a homecoming to remember when love interest Matthew popped the question. Ever since then, lovers of all things Call The Midwife have been counting down to seeing the couple tie the knot, but now they'll have to wait a bit longer.

Helen George, the actress who plays Trixie, hinted last week that things might not run smoothly when it comes to her on screen alias' nuptials, but, while we'll have to wait and see how the storyline itself unfolds, disruption has already been caused due to a scheduling change.

The BBC have taken the decision to delay the Call The Midwife series 12 finale until Sunday, February 26, in order to air live coverage of this year's BAFTA Film Awards. News of it being moved was officially confirmed on the show's Twitter account, with a post reading: "Our #CallTheMidwife Series 12 finale has been delayed due to the live BAFTA Film Ceremony next Sunday!

"The final episode of Series 12 will now air in TWO weeks time - Sunday 26th February at 8pm. So put the champagne on ice – we promise you an unforgettable event.."

The comments underneath the tweet said it all as viewers voiced their disapproval. One complained: "!Unacceptable. BAFTAS could easily go to BBC2. Shame on you, BBC!" Taking exactly the same stance, another replied: "WHAT ??!! Oh no no no this is unacceptable"

Suggesting a way round it to keep everyone happy, a third commented: "Why couldn’t they have jsut done a double bill tonight?! Or shown it on iPlayer live then on bbc1 Monday night?! Or even the week after?!but at least it would be on iPlayer"
