BBC's Call the Midwife 'replacement' confirmed and it's an old favourite

As Call The Midwife fans face the facts that they now have a 10 month wait until more new episodes of the hit drama, the BBC have revealed what will go into its 8pm slot on Sunday night. And the show in question is one viewers of all ages know very well.

Having delighted millions of viewers for over a decade now, Call The Midwife ended its latest run on Sunday, February 26, with a final episode that was described as 'an emotional rollercoaster' by fans. The 60 minute series closer, which had been delayed a week due to this year's BAFTAs, had heart-warming moments aplenty, largely down to Trixie and Matthew's wedding and the return of Sister Monica Joan to lead proceedings, after viewers had feared that she might be a goner.

As hinted at by Trixie actress Helen George, there was some tragedy, involving the death of a heavily pregnant mother at the wheel, after she struck her head in a car crash. While the mother couldn't be saved, Dr Turner rushed in, with the help of wife Shelagh, to safely deliver her baby at the accident scene.

Before the new series had even ended, it was confirmed that Call The Midwife would definitely be retuning for at least two more seasons, with its 13th run preceded by a Christmas special at the end of this year.

But for now there is a vacant 8pm slot on BBC One that needs to be filled and, after some schedule reshuffling, the gap will be filled by Antiques Roadshow

The long-running programme, now fronted by Fiona Bruce, will be moved forward an hour from its usual 7pm time slot, meaning it will go into direct competition with Inspector Morse spin-off Endeavour over on ITV.

Sunday's episode of Antiques Roadshow will feature the Queen Consort's visit to the Eden Project to discuss charity project The Big Lunch.
