Andy Murray Wimbledon drama causes BBC 'upset' as viewers miss popular show

Andy Murray's late night drama at Wimbledon has forced the BBC into an unplanned repeat of one of its biggest shows, as viewers missed out on seeing it on Thursday.

Two time Wimbledon winner was in action on Centre Court against Stefanos Tsitsipas, the number 5 seed and, after an action packed day, which saw fellow Brits Liam Broady and Katie Boulter, the match didn't get going until after 8pm. That forced the BBC to make some hasty scheduling changes, one of those being that Who Do You Think You Are was switched to BBC Two.

The massively popular programme is usually in the 9pm primetime lots on Thursday nights and, while it was revealed to those watching in real time that it had been bumped in favour of Murray v Tsitsipas, those who'd set it record ended up not seeing it at all, as their TV boxes recorded what was on at 9pm on BBC One.

And it didn't take long for people to complain, with 'not everyone likes tennis; arguments quickly appearing on Twitter, as the Who Do You Think You Are featuring TV star and former I'm A Celebrity runner-up Emily Atack, went out on BBC Two. One unimpressed viewer tweeted: "Tonight on the #BBC A new episode of Who Do You Think You Are missed as the channel change cocked everyone's recordings up. No regional news. All because of Andy Murray? Give me a BREAK."

A second reacted: " is it possible to repeat tonight's Who Do You Think You Are? Your decision to swap channels means my Virgin box has taped an hour of Scottish bloke playing tennis who looks nothing like Emily Atack. I was rather looking forward to seeing it."

It has since been confirmed that the episode will be repeated on Wednesday, July 12 at 10.40pm.

Murray's second round tie ended up going on long after Who Do You Think You Are had even finished. After well fancied Tsitsipas, took the first set on a tie break, Murray did the same to claim the second, before breaking in the third to take it 6-4, after some late drama when he slipped and fell to the ground in pain.
