BBC respond to Strictly 'fix' claim as Fleur's dance-off fall doesn't make it to air

The BBC have responded after Strictly Come Dancing was hit with fresh claims the dance show is "fixed".

The broadcaster shared a statement to explain why Fleur East's fall in the dance-off didn't make the final edit on Sunday night's show and claimed it took place before her performance had begun.

A source claimed that Fleur, 35, and her dance partner Vito Coppola fell to the ground, which sparked a loud gasp in the studio.

It was claimed Fleur took Vito, 27, down to the ground with her before the pair were checked over by medical staff.

The pair were then reportedly allowed to re-start their dance, and in turn they won the dance-off against James Bye and Amy Dowden, who were voted out of the show.

A spokesperson for the BBC said: "After an incident with a prop at the beginning of Fleur and Vito's dance-off performance, the decision was made to halt proceedings to check they were not injured.

"As they had not begun to dance before the incident occurred, it was decided they could start the performance again, once it was confirmed they were fit to do so."

Fans were left furious as it was revealed Fleur and Vito's fall was edited out of the show.

One angry viewer tweeted: "Disgraceful behaviour to edit out the fall by Fleur East, then vote her through to the next round. The BBC is no longer a 'trusted source' across all of its programmes and now Strictly has been fixed yet again".

"So we find out Fleur East fell in her first dance off (unseen), stumbled in her second dance off (seen) and yet all 4 judges still voted her as the best based on the dance off alone!? Doesn’t make sense #Strictly #BBCStrictly," another said.

And a third asked: "How can Fleur have been give. Another chance to dance? It’s a live show on Sundays and I didn’t notice the chair fall etc. #SCD #fleureast #Strictly". [sic]

James Bye was eliminated on Sunday (PA)

While others defended the decision as one said: "It feels like there’s a campaign against Fleur, she slipped before the actual dancing happened, she did fall during the routine too but despite that she was still better than James. She shouldn’t have even been in the dance off #ThisMorning #StrictlyComeDancing #Strictly".

"There’s clearly something the audience aren’t connecting with Fleur, such a shame because she’s smashing it," another added.

It comes after Fleur discussed surviving the dance-off on her Hits Radio show.

X Factor star Fleur vowed to 'keep fighting' for her spot on the show (PA)

She discussed how losing her dad Malcom in 2020 is spurring her to "keep fighting" on the show.

Fleur said: "In life there are so many challenges and so many things you have to face and I'm gonna be 100% honest here, losing my dad in 2020 was the hardest thing I've ever experienced – emotionally, mentally, everything.

"There's been such a hole in my life ever since he left. The whole reason I'm doing this show is for him so to be in the dance-off, if that's the journey, if that's the challenge, there is nothing that's gonna be harder than losing my father.

"So I'll pick myself up every time and I'll remind myself why I'm there and I'll just keep fighting and I'll come back stronger."
