A special radio broadcast celebrating Liverpool's thriving music scene is kicking off in the city centre this evening.
BBC Radio 1Xtra is hosting the special live show tonight, celebrating local talent while also getting to know more about the city’s unique and growing music scene. Birthplace of the legendary, history-making The Beatles, Liverpool's influence and impact on the music industry is still felt to this day.
The city's music scene continues to thrive, with hit-makers Red Rum Club, Jamie Webster, Nikki and the Waves gaining recent traction and acclaim, while established acts like The Coral still draw a crowd of excited fans. Liverpool has no shortage of homegrown talent, and BBC Radio 1Xtra's DJ Target will tonight broadcast his entire show live from Liverpool, in celebration of this.

BBC Radio 1Xtra will connect with artists and DJs in the area and speak to special guests about the rising prominence of Liverpool on the UK’s music scene. The show will feature a live performance from Liverpool artists, Kasst and AJFromThe8, as well as a special guest DJ mix from local DJ Hannah Lynch, who has put together a set made up entirely of music from Liverpool artists.
The special show is part of BBC Radio 1Xtra’s UK Touchdown Tour which has seen the station touchdown in a total of 22 different cities across April including Liverpool, Birmingham, Newcastle, Cardiff, Manchester, Brighton, Edinburgh, Belfast, Glasgow and Leeds. For each show, BBC Radio 1Xtra will source tracks using BBC Music Introducing’s extensive network of local Introducing shows and feature the music of undiscovered artists from the city.
Local, undiscovered artists featured in tonight’s Liverpool show include Bally Jones, Whatface, SSJ, T3X, P3lz, Paisleigh and Raincastillo. The broadcast will take place from the BBC Radio Merseyside building on Hanover Street.
