The writer of new BBC One drama Sherwood has explained why 'Notts Forest' was referenced within the first episode after facing a social media backlash. It aired for the first time on Monday (June 13) at 9pm, and the series is inspired by two Nottinghamshire murders back in 2004.
The once world record transfer fee for ex-Nottingham Forest star Trevor Francis was mentioned in one of the opening scenes of the first episode. However, the team was referred to as 'Notts Forest' rather than Nottingham Forest, which left some viewers baffled.
Writer James Graham, who comes from Nottinghamshire himself, took to Twitter to explain why that was said after the social media outcry. He said he will "make amends" and held his hands up, saying "my bad".
