BBC One Sherwood: No end of praise for third episode as tensions rise

Viewers continue to gush over screenwriter James Graham's BBC One hit drama series Sherwood as tensions begin to rise. Inspired in part by real events, Sherwood sees two shocking and unexpected killings that create immense tension in an already divided community, sparking a massive manhunt.

Scott Rowley (played by Adam Hugill) continues to cause unrest among the mining communities in Ashfield in episode three of the drama, while the police are yet to capture him as he hides in the woodlands with a crossbow. Then, DCS Ian St Clair (David Morrissey) gets a text to alert him to yet another murder.

Without spoiling the plot, viewers come closer to learning the identity of a mysterious 'spy' in the form of a police officer who had been dropped into the village during the miners' unrest. Mining striker Gary Jackson, the first to be murdered, had been researching who the undercover police officer might have been before his death.

Some Twitter users took to the social media site to draw comparisons with hit show Line of Duty. "It's the new 'H'", some suggested.

The shock arrow attacks also continue, this time with a peacock shot at Newstead Abbey. It comes after a train was attacked at the beginning of episode two, which a councillor now fears may have inspired an actual, real-life incident on a train today (June 20), when a moving train was hit by an object in Newstead.

And, perhaps to the delight of thousands of fans and Nottinghamshire's residents, Nottingham Forest was this time correctly referenced. As such the show continues to get endless praise.

One Twitter user, Stevie, said: "Accents etc, whatever. This has been magnificent this series, Sherwood. I know culture-war loving far-right reactionaries like to [slam] the BBC, apparently it's 'left-wing' (the same BBC who for 4 years attacked Corbyn relentlessly) but yeah, it's a magic drama, best in ages."

And another added: "BBC returning to its glory days. Writing something so heart wrenching for both sides of the community and something real people can feel."

The latest episode, which aired at 9pm on Monday, June 20, also referenced the Ashfield's miners' action groups, who attended the funeral of Gary. Tensions have started to rise and a confrontation with the police at a social club breaks out.

And Mick, on Twitter, praised actor Stephen Tompkinson's hair-do alongside countless others. He said: "That is some hair/tash combo on Stephen Tompkinson."

Episode four will be shown next Monday.
