BBC One Chloe: Who is Erin Doherty? The Bristol Old Vic Theatre School alumnus who says she 'peaked too early'

Former Bristol Old Vic Theatre student Erin Doherty will be appearing on our screens on Sunday (February 6) as the first episode of Chloe airs on BBC One.

Playing the obsessive character of Becky, Doherty leads the psychological thriller, which was filmed on location across Bristol.

This is not Doherty's first mainstream role, having played a young Princess Anne in series three and four of The Crown, and winning awards for her royally amazing performance in the historical drama series.

But although her performance may have been highly commended, the star has recently revealed that she was 's****ting herself' as she played Princess Anne, as the production and budget is not what you would expect from one of your first jobs out of theatre school.

Speaking to iNews, the 29-year-old said: "I lucked out, I peaked too early.

"There isn’t anyone frothing milk for your coffee on normal sets, but it’s not too much to ask for the fake queen.”

Despite having to don riding gear and outfits that adhered to royal dress codes, Doherty proclaims herself to be a 'tracksuit girl', and an introvert, saying that a lot of the time, during filming for The Crown, she was thinking "What am I doing here?".

Since throwing the towel in as Princess Anne and passing the role onto Claudia Harrison for series five and six, Doherty says she has had offers thrown at her to play other royals in different shows about the family, but has turned them down in the interest of wanting to play completely different characters - such as Chloe.

If you didn't know, Doherty's character in Chloe, Becky, is a full-time carer for her mum, who has early onset dementia. Living a bleak life at her seaside flat, Becky obsesses over Chloe, a total stranger who appears to have the perfect life - one much different to the drab one Becky has.

But when Chloe suddenly passes away, Becky takes it upon herself to find out how her social media prey met her fate, adopting a new persona and infiltrating the lives of her closest friends.

To get into character, Doherty decided to spend more time online before heading to set, which very quickly 'became more than a habit', she told iNews.

She said: "It took me bloody ages to genuinely stop myself from doing it – it is a proper addiction; it blew my mind,

“You don’t really notice or recognise that when it’s just you in this little world on your phone. I couldn’t even tell you what I was looking at. Probably just cats.”

Chloe airs at 9pm on Sunday, February 6, on BBC One.

Locations used in filming include A Bond Warehouse near Cumberland Basin (which provided the setting for a nightclub), M Shed on Princes Wharf, The Arches industrial estate in St Philips and Picton Street in Montpelier.

Numerous other Bristol locations were also used, with the help of the Bristol Film Office, including the Bristol Marriot Royal Hotel on College Green, the exterior of St George’s Hall on Great George Street, Bristol Beacon, the Royal West Academy on Queen’s Road, The Forge in Colston Yard, Bar 44 in Clifton, Bristol’s harbourside, the Quay Street Diner and a private residence on Fernbank Road in Redland.
