BBC Morning Live Gethin Jones 'in absolute bits' as he shares update following 24-hour challenge

Gethin Jones admitted he was left "in absolute bits" following his 24-hour dancing challenge to raise money for Comic Relief. The Welsh presenter's hugely ambitious task began during BBC Morning Live on the morning of Thursday, March 16, and continued in the studio throughout the day and night, finishing at 10am on Friday, March 17.

Called Gethin Keeps Dancing, the broadcast saw the host joined by many celebrities, including Strictly Come Dancing's Amy Dowden and The One Show's Alex Jones. For his final few hours, Gethin was joined by Countryfile's Helen Skelton who admitted she was emotional as a "broken" Gethin continued to dance. You can read more on this here.

Returning to Morning Live on Monday, March 20, Gethin admitted he was "in absolute bits" the day following the 24-hour dance task. Asked by his co-host Kym Marsh how he was feeling, the 45-year-old said: "I was in absolute bits on Saturday morning, trying to get down the stairs was quite something, I had to come down backward, it took about half an hour in the end but it was fine, I didn't mind the pain."

He continued: "I think we were all completely overwhelmed with the amount of money we raised, thanks to you at home and how generous you were. It was a really proud moment for the Morning Live team as we rocked up to Media City on Friday night to reveal the total. It was just very, very special, we were elated."

Kym then said: "Listen, do you want to know what the updated total is?" The BBC Morning Live studio then revealed the total amount of money raised now stood at a whopping £1,278,507.

Shocked by the donations, Gethin said: "We've been saying all weekend it's just a remarkable amount of money, it's very difficult to get your head around that amount of money, but it will make such a difference. Thank you to everybody who's donated."

Introducing the other segments to the show, the Welsh star joked: "I was talking about the pain on the weekend, I've never been happier to see Dr Xand (van Tulleken) because he's talking about aches and pains today."

Gethin Keeps Dancing took place in aid of Red Nose Day 2023, the challenge saw Gethin dance for 24 hours straight in the hopes of raising money for good causes across the UK and around the globe. For more showbiz and television stories get our newsletter here.
