BBC MasterChef's Gregg Wallace under fire over comments towards contestant

Views have accused MasterChef host Gregg Wallace of throwing a contestant 'under the bus' over comments about a dish served up by a contestant on the BBC show. Some have accused him of being 'out of order' towards the contestant.

Jamahl, a recruitment consultant from London, had been discussing a previous bad round with the presenter. Jamahl had cooked chicken thighs with a tomato and jerk sauce which was meant to go with rice and peas in round one of Thursday night's show on BBC One (April 14).

Birmingham Live reports he came under scrutiny from the judges after serving up the chicken thighs alone as he admitted he had undercooked the rice. There was more bad news for Jamahl when guest judge Jay Rayner then set a task for the contestants - to make rice the star of their next dish. And Gregg was quick to tell him about his earlier slip-up.

Viewers were less than impressed as he told Jay: "In the last round Jamahl failed to serve us a pot of rice." Jay replied: "Ohhh...so when you saw this brief did you think 'Oh no here you go again'."

@GillHayward1 said on twitter: "Gregg telling Jay that Jamahl failed to deliver rice in the first round is out of order #MasterChef #MasterChefUK." @TeamPenster agreed: "Not cool Greg ! OOF Jamahl #MasterChef #MasterChefUK."

@julianhilaire commented: "Gregg basically bubbled up Jamal up to jay...this man can’t cook rice #masterchef." @darrenbizzle2 added: "Gregg giving Jamahl some beef ... #MasterChef."

Jamahl had served up a mushroom and chili risotto to try and impress Jay, but again fell short as he failed to bring all the elements he had promised to his dish once again. He said he had cooked everything but "needed more time to plate" as he explained why the parmesan crisp was missing.
