BBC Marriage viewers are all saying the same thing about the Nicola Walker and Sean Bean drama

Starring Sean Bean and Nicola Walker the new BBC drama Marriage carried high expectations from viewers as it explored the ins and outs of married life. Many viewers were left disappointed after watching the first episode on Sunday, August, 14 - despite it starring two of the UK's finest actors.

The drama follows married couple Ian (Sean Bean) and Emma (Nicola Walker) as they negotiate the ups and downs of their 30-year marriage. Despite promising humour and moving moments many viewers found the drama "boring" and said they were "bored to tears".

Audiences took to Twitter to air their disappointment at the show. One said: "#marriage #bbc This may be the most boring ‘drama’ I have ever watched. The glacial pace and poor sound values coupled with the weird choir at high volume is not what I expect for my licence fee. Get a grip BBC! I won’t be watching any more episodes of this s**t."

Another added: "#marriagebbc that's an hour of my life I'm not getting back won't be wasting another three hours. B O R I N G." and a third said: "Omg I lost an hour of my life I will never get back! What a load of rubbish! #marriagebbc"

And: "I was really looking forward to watching #marriagebbc last night, but was so disappointed. I gave up after half an hour.." Other viewers questioned if the series could improve.

One said: "#marriage #bbc surely it has to get better" and "Interesting to read the mixed reviews for #marriagebbc this morning. So far I'm intrigued and sticking with it. But I can understand why others aren't."

However, other viewers had praise for Sean and Nicola's acting. One said: "It’s excruciating but perfectly portrayed by Sean Bean and Nicola Walker".

Another added: "So many people slating #marriage. I can’t stop watching it. The pauses, the real life silences, the awkwardness, the chemistry between the phenomenal Sean Bean & Nicola Walker. Acting at its finest."

A third added: "Nicola Walker & Sean Bean together, is an acting #marriage made in heaven. Coupled with Stefan's Golaszewski writing, inclusive of his wit, sharp one liners and meaningful silences. It's the trio we didn't know we'd been waiting for."

Sean and Nicola lead an impressive cast for the drama, which you can read more about here, which is made up of four hour-long episodes. The series was mostly filmed in Greater London, which you can read about here, and Marriage will continue on BBC One on Monday, August 14 at 9pm.
