Happy Valley has reignited everyone's love for Sarah Lancashire - if it ever went away - as she steals the show as Sergeant Catherine Cawood. The hit BBC One drama returned to screens earlier this month for its final ever series - seven years after the second series caught everyone's attention in 2016.
The third season sees Catherine Cawood discover the remains of a gangland murder victim in a drained reservoir which has then sparked an unfortunate series of events that has lead her back to Tommy Lee Royce, the father of her grandson Ryan and her late daughter's rapist.
After a tip-off from her colleague in the police force, Catherine was shocked to discover it was her sister, Clare, who was facilitating Ryan's visits to the Category-A prison in Leeds with her partner, Neil Ackroyd. This led her to confront her sister in a tense cafe moment which has been hailed by fans as some of the best TV they have seen.
Following the episode, fans were flocking to social media to praise Sarah, who grew up in Oldham and worked as a drama tutor at the University of Salford before landing her breakthrough role as barmaid Raquel Wolstenhulme in the ITV soap Coronation Street from 1991 to 1996 and again in 2000.
At one point, she was the highest-paid TV actress in the UK after singing a golden-handcuff deal with ITV. Her other TV credits include dramas Last Tango in Halifax, The Paradise and Julia. But she's also performed in films and plenty of plays on the West End and a resurfaced clip has been showing off her singing talent.
Fan account @QueenLancashire on Twitter shared a clip of Sarah, 58, performing at a BBC concert as Joyce Chilvers from Betty Blue Eyes, a role she held in the West End in 2011. They tweeted: "In case you only know Sarah Lancashire from Happy Valley.. just so you know. She can SING."
And it was quickly flooded with responses. Former Corrie star Julie Hesmondhalgh, who played Hayley Cropper in the ITV soap, replied: "I knew she could, I’d heard she could. But this has kinda blown my mind."
@casshackforth said: "Can’t stop watching." @playsbyme wrote: "She's done musicals! Looove her." @Dolly_cat replied: "Of course, because there is nothing Sarah Lancashire can’t do marvellously!" @BitesizeElle wrote: "Oh my days!!! She can sing too!!!"
@Anonymous_Riter posted: "Ah, for crying out loud! Stop, Sarah! You're giving me a heart attack!!" @SarcasmAintEasy shared: "This is not helping slow down my ever growing crush on Sarah Lancashire." @RazzaBeeSW added: "Is there anything this woman can't do? #SarahLancashire."
