Rylan Clark was forced to issue a bad language apology to BBC viewers, after just two songs of the first Eurovision semi final on Tuesday night.
Former X Factor and Celebrity Big Brother star Rylan was due to host last year's semi final coverage alongside Scott Mills, before pulling out due to illness. But as Eurovision returns to the format fans are accustomed to after it was cancelled in 2020 and then scaled back 12 months ago, Rylan joined BBC Three co-presenter Scott at Turin's Pala Olimpico arena as the Eurovision semi finals kicked off.
The Eurovision semi final 1 line-up included favourites in the Eurovision odds, Ukraine's Kalusha Orchestra, Greece, The Netherlands and Norway's Subwoolfer, the act that have been subject to a lot of mystery in the run up to this year's contest. First on stage on Tuesday was Albania and they were followed on stage by Latvia, represented by Citi Zeni who performed their zany track Eat Your Salad.

As the song reached its crescendo, it contained the line "being green is sexy as f**k," and while the swear word wasn't immediately obvious, Rylan, who will be back on hosting dries for Eurovision semi final 2 on Thursday, stepped in just seconds after the performance ended to say: "should apologise there if you heard any strong language."
While not picking up on the bad language, reacting to Latvia, one BBC viewer tweeted: "feel like I’m watching a kids bad boyband from CBeebies." Equally baffled by what they were watching on screen, another posted: "Latvia needs to get through so I can see the madness they bring to the final."
The UK's Sam Ryder is involved in neither semi-final, with him receiving an automatic place in Saturday's final and being drawn in the second half of the show, which should boost his already well tipped chances of doing well even further.
