BBC director general defiant amid Trump $10bn lawsuit battle

BBC director general Matt Brittin has insisted the broadcaster must defend its integrity by fighting a 10 billion dollar (£7.5 billion) defamation lawsuit brought by Donald Trump .
The US legal action relates to a 2024 Panorama documentary on the Capitol riots, which the BBC admitted contained a bad edit implying Mr Trump called for violent action.
Although the broadcaster apologised for the error of judgment and former director-general Tim Davie resigned, the BBC is seeking to have the lawsuit dismissed.
Mr Trump claimed the documentary caused him reputational and financial harm ahead of his 2024 presidential election victory.
The BBC is challenging the case on jurisdictional grounds, warning of the chilling effect such litigation could have on robust journalism.
