BBC Countryfile viewers 'throw up' as they vent over guest's 'oven-ready squirrel' dinner

Countryfile viewers were left feeling pretty queasy during the latest episode as a guest got to grips with her 'oven-ready squirrel' and showed off her 'road kill pies'.

Presenters Matt Baker and Margherita Taylor were back on-screens on Sunday night as their latest assignment for the BBC show saw them sampling the various pies on offer in Melton Mowbray.

"Today, the Melton Mowbray pork pie is one of 96 geographically protected foods thought to be worth £6billion in export value to the UK but there’s money to be made from exotic pies too," Margherita explained to viewers.

She then went on to meet with Kath and Phil Walmsley who have an award-winning food business and was soon detailing some of the unusual food offerings they have available. “Kangaroo pie, camel pie, crocodile pie," Kath said.

"The main one that’s got the most interest is the squirrel pie which we entered into the British Pie Awards and we got a gold for that," she added before taking Margherita through the recipe.

"I'd got some oven ready squirrels from a farmer's market, just because I'd never seen them before," Kath explained. "And I just thought, I'll do something with these. They ended up going in a pie. I just wanted to step outside the box."

Margherita then helped Kath in making what she described as a "roadkill pie" which featured a tyre track design created with her grandson’'s toy tractor.

But Countryfile viewers couldn't quite handle it.

@susie_retro tweeted: "#Countryfile Yuk that's enough to put me off eating anything that's called Roadkill Pie."

"Squirrel pie and roadkill pie on #Countryfile tonight - seriously?! Utterly gross. Why give these people airtime? #BBCCountryfile @BBCCountryfile," @MomoMcLean complained.

@Denton83 shared: "Roadkill Pie? #Countryfile," alongside a GIF of someone gagging, with the words written across it: "I just threw up in my mouth a little bit."

"Squirrel in a pie? So cruel #countryfile," @CraigS0309 added.
